$92 to fill up the mazda today, around $6.30USD per gallon of regular unleaded.

I think what happened is that Sammy Hagar was bitchin about Can't Drive 55, so was the speed limit was increased? Then blame Sammy. Either that or end time prophesies are beginning to happen.

You keep bringing up quality of life Kenny and I would say, after 7 or 8 years of not driving, that my quality of life has increased because of that decision. I have more money. I am healthier. Talked to a guy who came into my shop day before yesterday about this. He said he was at the pump when they were changing prices. 18 cent jump. They jacked up his pump right after he filled up. Fuck. String the bastards up.

When I filled up on Monday..it was $3.65. Yesterday I drove by it was $3.95. Basically, take a hundred dollar bill with you when you go to fill up...you may get change back.

Well, if we can only conceive of this as "the politics of oil," we're in big trouble. OTOH, if we think about the politics of energy or the politics of transportation, we have a lot of better options than fighting more wars and ripping up every last piece of wilderness. It takes a long time to build light rail, but a lot of that could be done in less time than it would take to get any oil out of ANWR.

Sorry, KL, but even if drilling were to begin yesterday, it would take a decade to see any results. There is no pipeline from ANWAR to the continental US. That oil will end up in Asia.

What we may see is a conversion from gas to electricity within the next 3 years. This will put a strain upon the electric plants, so there will be a need for more capacity (hopefully solar and wind).

Clean, cheap energy, Solar. Wind. Think about it.

What you have is a perception problem, Kenny. Since I drive 10 miles to work, I can easily stop off on my way home to buy a gallon of milk or a few bags of salt for my water softener.

But I will not make a special trip into town for milk - if I run out it will have to wait until tomorrow. On the other hand, if I want to take Carol to a movie or go out to dinner, I may decide that it's worth using a gallon or two of gasoline.

I can honestly say I walk! But that's because I stopped using the cigs 10 years ago. Back then I wouldn't have made it.

I walk a lot. I cut my grass with a power-free reel (push) mower, use hand clippers instead of a weed whacker........

My co-workers drive 4 blocks to go through the drive-through at the local McDonald's. Then they bitch about the price of gas.

I drive 10 miles to work, park my mini-van, then ride my bike or walk to my appointments or local errands. I need a car to do my job, but I don't need it all of the time.
