Is it quiet? I've seen you vent about loud bikes.

This baby purrs like a kitten.
If a biker believes that "loud pipes save lives," then the pipes should face towards the FRONT. |

Is that a 1981?
What CC?

It's a mint-condition 1980 250cc, Van. I'm going to spend some time today polishing the chrome, but otherwise, it needs no work at all. It had two
previous owners: an older gent that rode it around town, and the woman I bought it from.

Remember, it does require a non-energy conserving oil.
That is, if you plan on doing your own mechanicing. Don't get sucked into the "you have to use motorcycle specific oil" by a dealership. A good 15W-50 oil like Mobil 1 works real good. And use regular unleaded gas.

Thanks for the tips, Van. As a newbie to motorcycling, I can use all of the advice I can get.
I need to take my Michigan motorcycle certification class this week and get my license. I've taken it for a couple of spins close to home, and I'm getting used to maneuvering a 200 pound bike (instead of a 18 pound road racing bicycle). |

Any tips I can give you, just ask.
Also, I highly recommend this book: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1933958359/ref=cap_pdp_dp_1#

It seems that most of the techniques I use while bicycling apply to motorcycling.

I've ridden the bike 120 miles since I've had it, and put 1.5 gallons of gas in it. That's 80 MPG!

That's pretty good.
I only got 43 MPG yesterday on my round trip to Flagstaff. I readjusted the carb today.

43 doesn't seem bad - your bike is pretty big, isn't it?
That book you recommended is pretty awesome, too. It arrived a couple of days ago. |

Just be careful on that thing. My neighbor is an avid motorcyclist and says that autumn leaves on the street can be hazardous. It is a beautiful machine,
though.

Yeah, mine's a 1600 cc, so there's no way I can get 80 mpg.
52 is the best I've achieved. Glad you got the book. Even though I've been riding for 40 years, I learned quite a bit from it.

Just be careful on that thing. My neighbor is an avid motorcyclist and says that autumn leaves on the street can be hazardous. You bet! Some things are very similar to bicycling (road hazards, intersections). I live in fear of the careless left-turn driver or the motorist emerging from a driveway. I'm always ready to take evasive action. |
