I suppose in his defense (if such a man can be said to merit a defense) he's saying that humans lack the "maturity" to recognize just how great a
threat we are constantly facing from extreamists.. But in actuality whats happening here is these GOP chickenhawks lack the maturity to even consider that a
Democratic congress or President could handle the situation or perhaps even IMPROVE our situation.
His utter contempt for real democracy is apparent over and over, it's military elitism, annd the desire for a Military state thats run Top Down...These fucker want that so bad, they hate having to answer for mistakes or hear other points of view. These men disgust me! And we should all be insulted to be treated like unruly school children by these architects of disaster!!! |

Well, you so big on your kneejerk reaction that you fail to see that his answer was making a hypothetical point in answer to a question. The public does do this weird thing with the military (as well as with firemen and cops, etc.) They only love them when threatened. The point is...a good job done militarily is "working yourself out of a job" RUMSFELD: That's what I was just going to say. This President's pretty much a victim of success. We haven't had an attack in five years. The perception of the threat is so low in this society that it's not surprising that the behavior pattern reflects a low threat assessment. The same thing's in Europe, there's a low threat perception. The correction for that, I suppose, is an attack. And when that happens, then everyone gets energized for another [inaudible] and it's a shame we don't have the maturity to recognize the seriousness of the threats...the lethality, the carnage, that can be imposed on our society is so real and so present and so serious that you'd think we'd be able to understand it, but as a society, the longer you get away from 9/11, the less...the less... |

Kenny, if we withdraw from Iraq, the Iraqis are not going to kill us. The whole "terrorists will follow us back if we leave" line is delusional,
neocon fantasy. In the real world, any terrorists who want to try an attack in the US could be trying an attack in the US right now. Having US troops
risk their lives in Iraq does nothing to prevent terrorist attack in the US or elsewhere. Bombings in London and Madrid (did Rumsfeld forget about those?) have
already demonstrated this.

The war in Iraq did nothing to keep Cheney from shooting his friend in the face and I'll bet that guy felt pretty terrorized.

WTF are you talking about? Let me say this slowly: Occupying Iraq is not making us safer. Leaving Iraq will not make us less safe. Keeping American soldiers in Iraq will not prevent anyone from nuking New York and DC. Is that hard to understand? |

"""When New York and DC go up in a mushroom cloud...or are decimated by a biological attack.......you'll see things different."" well, there ya go, like Don you see this as a "needed correction" so you don't see how crazy he is because your just as crazy yourself... Occupying Iraq is not preventing any of these things, in fact sending our National Guard on 2 and 3 tours instead of having them here to protect to homeland in case of national emergency puts us at FAR GREATER RISK than we have ever ever been. Saying the president is a "victim of success " is a bald faced lie. Our Ports are insecure at level never before seen, our National Guard is tired and gutted from this war, our troops are tired and not getting the rest and aid they need.. we are hated around the globe in a way we have never seen before.. This administration and it's policies are the greatest threat to national security in all of American history. And for Dr. Evil to try to spin our current tenuous situation as a product of the "immaturity" of democratic voters is obscene, but we've come to expect no less from him. |

The problem with magical thinkers is that they believe that jousting with their own internal symbols and mythology has a direct effect on the Real World. From
voodoo dolls to the "war on terror", so long as they keep sticking their pins in, they must be doing some good, right?
Sheesh! I'll take a little naivety over outright delusion any day of the week. RS |
