crust - ie "What do you do for a crust?", meaning "What do you do for a living?" (from "How do you earn your daily bread?" or something like that).
arvo - afternoon
tinnie - a can of beer - Coldie is another slang term for beer, canned or not, as long as they're cold!
kip - sleep, nap
Not worth a brass razoo - worthless (no one can really explain how this expression came about).
He won't have buckleys - "He won't have Buckley's chance" - meaning he has little hope of achieving whatever the task is in question. I guess Buckley was someone who had a very slim chance at accomplishing something.
Prawns - Shrimp (no one ever says, "Throw a shrimp on the barbie". I've never seen anyone actually cook a prawn on the barbie! Mostly lamb chops, sausages, and steaks, and occasionally, chicken.
He cracked up/cracked it - He lost his temper - "He cracked it, big time" (he really blew his stack).

wireless - AM/FM broadcast radio - I can't believe some people still use this term!
Stack-up/bingle - two words for car accidents
To do a runner - to leave town suddenly and surreptitiously, as in running out to avoid paying rent, child support, or a restaurant check (which, by the way, is called a "bill" here. No one asks a waiter for "the check". A check (cheque) is what you may use to pay with).
Notes = bills as in money - the correct terminology would be "a $50 note", not a $50 bill
Tall poppies - those who achieve success and rise prominently above the pack
Tall poppy syndrome - describes how "common" people gain satisfaction by bringing about or enjoying the downfall of a prominent person, in the same way people made Britney a star and now revel in stories of her fall from grace.
Bangers - sausages - generally fried, or BBQed like Americans do hot dogs
Frangers - Condoms - not very good, fried
Bub - baby
Kindergarten/Kinder - Nursery school
Preps - Kindergarten as in the USA
College - High school
Uni - University/college
Battler - someone who struggles to pay the bills - living from paycheck to paycheck
How ya goin'? - How are you doing?
Are you right, there? - Are you OK/do you need help?
She'll be right - It'll be fine - does not refer to a woman but a situation.
Sheila - a woman (archaic term, used mostly by older people and ockers)
Ockers/bogans - Backwards or uneducated people at the bottom of the social ladder
Bush pig - a really crass, uncouth woman
De facto - used as a noun OR state of being - common law (unmarried) husband/wife - live-in lover - or the state of being in that relationship
footpath - sidewalk
Shops - stores - I know that's obvious but no one really calls them stores here.
Tap - faucet

Cooker - kitchen range ( upright stove)
Griller - broiler
Dunny/loo - toilet/restroom (Most people would ask where the dunny or toilet is, not "bathroom" because the bathroom is for bathing, and toilets are generally separated from the bathroom).
Basin - bathroom sink

A big roof hanging over the toolshed - a guy with a big beer gut (the tool shed is where, you know, his tool is).
Ugly as a hatful of arseholes - that one probably needs no explanation. Still makes me laugh when someone says it

To "come a cropper" - an expression which means someone or something failed at something they were trying to achieve - used in the past tense, saying someone or something came a cropper when it failed or didn't work out.

Dibs - Same at there? To have first dibs on something - to have the first chance at it?

Nope, still not sure about those two. Everyone I know still says "optimistic" as the opposite of pessimistic.
