Fortunately, I was there, and I was able to unplug most of the stuff that was plugged in, but I still wasn't fast enough, and some stuff got fried.
Apparently, the connector that hooks the two sides of my trailer together... Uhnm, Melted. With the express result of shoving 240 VAC@ Max Amps through
my Portable AC unit... And to top it off, my Shitty Switchbox, was not DESIGNED to shut off when 240 is shoved through it, so it did nto TRIP! Grrr! And not only the AC, but:
-My two "new" Athlon 4200 (4300?) and 4400 PCs and all the gook that was hooked up to them... Scanners,. Printers, etc
-My TV, my DVD player, and my Athlon x54 3200+
-My Refrigerator
-All of my Fans!
Plus my upper lights, switches... etc... basically, EVERYTHING that was running, got a 5 minute DOSE of 240 VAC- When the Connector fried, it took out the "center post," is what the guy called it: Which divides the voltage into 120 VAC looops on either side of my unit.
I was forced to call an emergency electrical service, the first 2 guys came out, charged me 90 bucks, and knew less than I knew... But they were decent enough to send a guy in on Sunday who was pretty adept at knwing how to deal with Aluminum Wiring, and after working on my system for 4 hours, I was left with one working fan and one TV, fortunately, my TV was OK- But he didn't finish and was Supposed to come back the next day!
I lost my Cable Modem and my Router- basically, none of that stuff worked, cos I could not fire up anything that required more than 2 amps- I Had the feeling that most of the stuff was really not broke or fried, but I had no good elec circuits to test that theory. Finally, after sitting and stewing in my sweat for 3 days, I called the company on Wednesday, and I told them that if the guy who had PROMISED to come back on Monday, did NOT show up by the end of the day Wednesday: then they would be crediting my brother's account 400 dollars of the 800 dollars they charged us to "get an emergency circuit going" - Well, that kicked some arses, and...
At 4:30pm Wednesday, the guy showed up... At exactly the same time I had ANOTHER electrician show up to give me another estimate, so THAT was an additional scene, ehehe. - But, the guy decently set up 2 Twenty-Amp circuits from my SwitchBOX to my Living Room... And the moment he had D/C'd the bad Living Room circuit, Blammo, I got most of my current back, Plus the extra 20 Amps- So, I plugged in the AC and it fired RIGHT up, and it got ultra-COLD within 5 minutes, so that was another sign that my 20-Amp line was fried.
Then I found out that my Insurance will cover most of the stuff that got damnaged, we're looking at about $10,000 of electrical repairs- Literally, the estimate is $8,900, which includes ripping walls out and putting them back up when finished... But it turns out that it all can be done for about 3,400. HEH- It IS a Temptation, but I may resist that, cos the Insurance company was very decent.
All I godda do is get 2 more estimates for the damage and then I can pick who fixes it all... I still have a Refrigerator Circuit to get fixed... I have heavy duty cable running all over the house.
That whole thing took a lot out of me, on Thursday I drank a medium sized, sugary, Iced Coffee, with about an ounce of E&J Cask and Cream... And I got Vertigo and vomited up all the E&J/Iced Coffee... The room was spinning so I had to call 911, and they had to carry me to the ambulance. They ER neglected to triage me until 4 hours had passed, so they probably missed any high blood sugar episode. My regular doctor said it was a combination of stress, heat, excitement, and also a tiny "pebble" in my Semicircular Canal that is supposed to sit at the bottom which went into the wrong place, so he showed me what to do if I got vertigo again, I have to hang my head off the side of the bed and put it in various positions until the vertigo goes away.
Oy Vey speaking of vertigo I must needs get off the PC cos I feel it coming back again and it is 1:00 AM! No way Im going to the Er at 1:00 AM!
So anyone else have some fun last week? :p :p :p
