On the flip side, if nobody is writing about a film online, then the 'buzz' really isn't there right? and it will go straight to video as they said in the old days.
What do you think?

Does Unlicensed DL Help/Hurt the Movie Bidness? |
Lead | |
|
I believe that aXXo isn't a person -BUT- the studios themselves pre-releasing films to help get web sites, blogs and Internet personalities pre-hyping
films like Wolverine because I don't see how 3, 10, 20 -OR- even 50,000 people in the world talking about how great a movie is BEFORE its released doing
anything -BUT- creating the 'buzz' that all media is after. If it wasn't available for the .0001% of folks who use the Internet to DL unlicensed
content, would it effect, in a good or bad way, a movie's release?
On the flip side, if nobody is writing about a film online, then the 'buzz' really isn't there right? and it will go straight to video as they said in the old days. What do you think? Does Unlicensed DL Help/Hurt the Movie Bidness? (Result)

Downloading movies is a pain...I have Netflix...which is cheaper and easier than going through all the hassle of movie downloads..
so I don't think it means anything to the movie business. |

Colonel Lee, my point exactly! Only a small percentage of 'net users even know how to access them, most don't even want to learn. Its a very small
percentage of the higher level users out there that know how to do it. Is that messing things up for the Industry or hurting their overall business?
If people talk, write or post information about a movie, record or TV show to drum up interest in it, do you think it helps -OR- hurts their overall sales? I even would like to see if it's increasing/decreasing the business which has been affected, good or bad, by the recession! |

Who voted and said that "It hurts their revenues?
What makes you think that way? C'mon, let us know why you think that way. This is a subject that I think we can really explore here with all of the brilliant minds associated with AABB. What do you think? |

Your poll doesn't have my response in it, TW. Poll making must cover the topic in full.

I agree with Kenny (mark this date down, hahahaha) I don't believe at this point it neither hurts nor helps the industry. In time it might end up hurting
them, but downloading movies takes hours to d/l and you have no clue what kind of quality you're getting, and in my case, I have to connect the laptop to
something large enough to enjoy the movie which is a pain in the ass and on and on. I don't d/l, I rent, just like the Colonel.

it doesn't have to be all that complicated, nor is it that much of a hassle.
my ($50) DVD player has a USB port on it. you download the AVI file overnight, dump it on to a memory stick, plug it into the DVD player, and watch the movie. popcorn not included. |

The problem with the movie industry is two-fold. One, it costs too much to go. Two, people in theaters are rude. I rarely download. I usually just wait for
DVD. I do expect to pay the theater price for Star Trek and Terminator soon.

Thanks for the advice Colonel, I'm not a big polling person, so next time I'll think things through a little better. It took me 3 tries to get this one
right LOL!
I was really asking if you thought DL hurt/helped. |

Stan you need to disregard the critics who panned Wolverine, cos it is a film worthy of being seen on a HUGE screen. Once my IMDB comment clears I'll post
a link to it so you can see WHY I thought it was great.
That is why I actually went to see it the first DAY, because they always show the newest films on the biggest screens in the theatre. You might be able to catch it like that until Wednesday, after that, they move it to the smaller theatres in the 25-theatre complex. I sat in the seats right behind the handicapped seats, right in the middle and I got the best of sound and picture. But you know what? Last 3 X-Men films there was a LINE starting at 9:00 am! This time, I walked RIGHT in- Hardley anyone showed up, the theatre had about 100 folks in it. I don't think the low amount of people there was due to everyone having watched it already from a pirate version, I think it is Bush's fault, he caused the ecomony. Also, I paid $8.50 for a MATINEE seat, thats bogus. Regular seating is like 10.50, matinee seats ought to be no more than 6 bucks. But ALL of them 100 folks enjoyed the film boisterously, and the talking aspect was very minumum. Just reactions to a lot of the scenes. I don't know about star trek, I dont like what I see, they changed the story to fit purile tastes, of course I'm gonna see it, but I just dont see any reason at all for them to rehash the story of Kirk/Spock etc... It has VERY limited sequel possibilities. Terminator looks interesting, but without Arnie the imagery fails.

Ok my Wolverine review posted:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0458525/usercomments-248 Here is a partial: "I'm the best at what I do and what I do ain't pretty" This film surprisingly stays fairly true to what we know about Wolverine and the "Weapon X" program through the comic books. The film is largely based in Barry Windsor-Smythe's "weAponX" which was run as a serial in the "Marvel Comics Presents" comic book line and later released in Trade Paperback form. There is a lot here for fans of Wolverine, certain aspects of this story were taken right from the Wolverine series of 1988 - Wolverine's relationship with "Silver Fox" uses a lot of elements straight from the books and that "chapter" of the wolverine story is actually fairly close to the source material. The only dramatic license I did not like was that Sabretooth and Wolverine are shown as brothers. Since the weAponX story by BWS was drawn in a cinematic style, a lot of the imagery from that book survives translation to Film format just as well as any Frank Miller book. While a lot of creative license was taken with some characters and some of the events that occur, much of the dialogue is taken straight from the books and the overall concept is maintained. Regarding the look of the film, I can use one example, when "Gambit" reveals his powers, the image we are given matches the iconic profile of Gambit- From the comic books and the 1992-96 Cartoon. |

Damn, I got 2 out of 2 already.
Looks like there is a Shill campain going on... Same as with Obama, the Limbaugh Dittoheads are at it again, using 45 of their 90 different screen names to vote this film down. The "loved it" reviews run 11 pages, but someone is running about hitting "not useful" One positive review had 1 usefull and 111 not useful. That means shills are hitting the flick in a campaign to make people not go see it... Same thing happened with the film "Black Dalhia" - I found negative comments posted, three, four and five times, exact wording, different users. And so this proves that Rush Limberger is trying to spread his cheese through internet shillage, and someone needs to take a "shill"-elagh to his head. |

Yep, the paid shills are out in force.
Someone is targeting movies and shows with negative comments and votes, the rating system is compromised. |
